WRITING EKPHRASTICALLY. With poet and fiction writer Nance Van Winckel. Open to writers in all genres. Using visual art to stimulate our imaginations and with some examples of art-inspired literary works, we will create poems, flash fictions, and/or lyric essays. Visual artworks will be provided, or participants are welcome to bring artwork they admire. The writing we do will involve “prompts” to engage the imagination’s participation IN and WITH the visual art.

Sunday, May 29, 1-4 p.m. at Two Sylvias Press, 11264 NE State Highway 104, Kingston, WA 98346
(Two Sylvias is located above the Crepe Shop near the Ferry Dock)

To enroll, send a check for $70, made out to ACES (Arts in Community Enrichment Services), to 10201 E. 4th, Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
Be sure to include an email address for contact info.

BIO NOTE: Nance Van Winckel is the author of five books of fiction, most recently Ever Yrs, a novel in the form of a photo scrapbook (Twisted Road Publications, 2014), and Boneland: Linked Stories (U. of Oklahoma Press, 2013). Her sixth collection of poems is Pacific Walkers (U. of Washington Press, 2013). A book of visual poetry, entitled BOOK OF NO LEDGE, is forthcoming in 2016 with Pleiades Press. Nance teaches in the low-residency MFA Program at Vermont College of Fine Arts and is Professor Emerita at Eastern Washington U. She's the recipient of two NEA fellowships, the Washington State Book Award, the Paterson Fiction Prize, the American Short Fiction Award, the Poetry Society of America's Gordon Barber Poetry Award, a Christopher Isherwood Fiction Fellowship, and three Pushcart Prizes.
