Two Sylvias Press Online Poetry Retreat: Guest Critique Poets

Traci Brimhall Traci Brimhall is the author of five collections of poetry: Love Prodigal (Copper Canyon, forthcoming), Come the Slumberless to the Land of Nod, Saudade, Our Lady of the Ruins, and Rookery. Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, The Nation, Orion, The New York Times Magazine, and Best American Poetry. She’s received fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and the National Parks Service, and she currently serves as the Poet Laureate for the State of Kansas. Jennifer Jean was born in Venice, California and lived in foster-care until she was seven. Her ancestors are from the Cape Verde Islands. Her poetry collections include VOZ (forthcoming in 2023 from Lily Books), OBJECT LESSON (Lily Books), and THE FOOL (Big Table). She's also released the teaching resource OBJECT LESSON: A GUIDE TO WRITING POETRY (Lily Books). Her poems, prose, and co-translations have appeared in Poetry Magazine, Rattle, The Common, On the Seawall, Waxwing, Terrain, and as an Academy of American Poets Poem-a-Day. She's been awarded fellowships from the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, Disquiet/Dzanc Books, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council; as well, she received an Ambassador for Peace Award from the Women's Federation for World Peace. Jennifer is an organizer, and co-translator of Arabic poetry, for the Her Story Is collective. She edits poetry for Talking Writing and translations for Consequence Forum; and, is the program manager of 24PearlStreet, the Fine Arts Work Center's online writing program. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and children. (Available for August)
January Gill O’Neil is the author of Rewilding (2018), Misery Islands (2014), and Underlife (2009), published by CavanKerry Press. She is an associate professor of English at Salem State University, and boards of trustees member with the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) and Montserrat College of Art. From 2012-2018, she served as executive director of the Massachusetts Poetry Festival. In 2018, January was awarded a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant, and was named the John and Renée Grisham Writer in Residence for 2019-2020 at the University of Mississippi, Oxford. She lives with her two children in Beverly, Massachusetts. (Available for July and August)
Diane Seuss is the author of five books of poetry. Her most recent collection is frank: sonnets (Graywolf Press 2021), winner of the PEN/Voelcker Prize, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the Pulitzer Prize. Still Life with Two Dead Peacocks and a Girl (Graywolf Press 2018), was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Four-Legged Girl (Graywolf Press 2015) was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Wolf Lake, White Gown Blown Open (University of Massachusetts Press), received the Juniper Prize. Her sixth collection, Modern Poetry, is forthcoming from Graywolf Press in 2024. Seuss was a 2020 Guggenheim Fellow. She received the John Updike Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2021. She was Writer in Residence at Kalamazoo College for many years. Seuss was raised by a single mother in rural Michigan, which she continues to call home. (Available for July and August)
Jennifer K. Sweeney is the author of four books of poetry, most recently Foxlogic, Fireweed, winner of the Backwaters Prize from Backwaters Press/University of Nebraska. Her other collections are Little Spells (New Issues Press, 2015), How to Live on Bread and Music (Perugia Press), and Salt Memory (Main Street Rag). She is the recipient of many awards, including the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets, the Perugia Press Prize, and a Pushcart Prize. She teaches poetry workshops at the University of Redlands in California, and is known for a decade-long practice of private instruction and manuscript critique. (Available for July and August)
