Two Sylvias Press 2020 Online Poetry Retreat

Retreat Sessions Available:
June 29th - July 26th (July 2020 Session) with Guest Critique Poets (FILLED/Closed)
August 3rd - August 30th  (August 2020 Session) with Guest Critique Poets (FILLED/Closed)
October 5th - November 1st (October 2020 Session) with Editors of Two Sylvias Press (still accepting sign-ups)

(Note: Space is limited for all sessions)

If you participated in last year's online retreat (summer or fall), you will find that this retreat has all-new prompts, exercises, and reflection questions. Same style as previous years' retreat, but with new material to inspire you!

Our Online Poetry Retreat offers you the opportunity to write new poems and have them critiqued by the guest poets (July and August Sessions) and the editors of Two Sylvias Press (Kelli Russell Agodon and Annette Spaulding-Convy for the October Session). We send you poetry prompts, example poems, creativity suggestions, and reflection questions to inspire your writing—ALL VIA EMAIL.

Our guest critique poets for our 2020 July and August Sessions are: Traci Brimhall, Jennifer Jean, January Gill O'Neil, Maggie Smith, and Jennifer K. Sweeney. Please click here to learn more about each poet.  We will send you a questionnaire after you sign up, and you can choose which guest poet you would like to work with in the critique of your poem.

You can participate in this Online Poetry Retreat at home or on the go!

All you need for this online retreat is access to your email and some writing/journaling time. Do as many or as few of the prompts and activities as you would like. It's a poetry writing retreat you can do from your own home on your OWN schedule! We provide the prompts, writing exercises, & inspiration--directly to your email box!

This online retreat is private and does not include interaction with the other participants (unless you would like to join an optional and private Facebook group to share poems and your retreat experience--we will send out info on the group in the introductory retreat letter).

The 4-week Online Poetry Retreat includes the following:
  • Daily poem prompts and writing exercises written specifically for the retreat.
  • One poem critiqued by your guest critique poet (July and August). Two poems are critiqued by the editors of Two Sylvias Press for the October Session.
  • A print copy of a Two Sylvias Press poetry publication (we will send you a list of choices).
  • Example poems, creativity suggestions, and reflection questions to spark ideas--emailed to you throughout the week (Mon. – Fri.). Sat. and Sun. are for focused writing and revision.
  • When your critiqued poem is returned, you will receive an updated listing of places to submit your work. This listing includes journals that are open to new/emerging poets as well as journals that accept work from more established writers.

*It's Back for 2020*  We are offering "Just The Exercises Package"!

We have had requests that we offer a less expensive version of the retreat which does not include the poem critique or the free publication from Two Sylvias. This "Just The Exercises Package" only includes the writing exercises/reflection questions/sample poems that are sent daily to your inbox. To learn more about this less expensive version of the retreat, please click here.

Testimonials:

For this poet, in this particular life at this particular time, your online retreat was stellar. The prompts had a weekly rhythm to them that was, for me, natural and yet extremely challenging. I learned more about myself and about my writing process and about where I could strengthen things, where the wall needed rebuilding, where it needed tearing down, than I have in a long time.  Your critique at the end of the sessions of my two poems was extremely useful. Detailed and gentle, informative and constructive. I would do it again in a minute.
~ Donna Spruijt-Metz, MFA, PhD
